The Old Schwamb Mill is a living-history museum dedicated to preserving an historic wooden frame-making site, c. 1864, including its machinery and tools. Two skilled woodworkers continue the Mill’s production of custom picture frames. The Mill offers year-round educational and arts programs including individual and group tours, lectures, musical performances, art and history exhibits, a seasonal crafts fair, and an annual Oktoberfest celebration.

This position is part-time, approximately 20 hours per week at $30/hour. The Mill’s regular open hours are Tuesday and Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm (12 hours/week), plus additional hours for monthly board meetings, evening programs, and special events. Flexibility is required to accommodate evening and weekend programs and meeting schedules.

Responsibilities

Oversee museum administration and operations, communications, and program development.

Coordinate museum programs, including special events and exhibits, and recruitment and scheduling of volunteer tour guides; record admissions income, on-site donations, project costs, etc.

Manage the office; reply to phone and email inquiries; set up audio-visual equipment for events as needed; oversee facilities rentals, art installations, and event registration.

Publicize museum events and programs by preparing postcards and other printed materials; developing media contacts, social media, and up-to-date information on the website; maintaining a centralized events calendar; and writing and distributing a monthly e-newsletter.

Collaborate and coordinate with Board members, volunteer committees, and external partners; report to the Board president or designee; attend the monthly Board meeting and submit an activities report.

Assist Board members with donor relations, grant writing and other fundraising opportunities.

Skills/Experience

Knowledge/experience/interest in nonprofit museum administration, industrial history, and/or Arlington history.

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and demands in a collaborative setting with Board members, community leaders, donors, volunteers, and others.

Computer and social media literacy, web site maintenance (Word Press), Facebook and Instagram, etc.; strong verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Three to five years of related experience and a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education.
